I’ve been casually collecting comics for a number of years, and I’ve started to add to it much more frequently in the past year or so. I’ll admit, compared to some others, my collection might not be all that impressive. Since I prefer to binge-read longer storylines (and because there aren’t many comic shops in the middle of the countryside, making the collection of monthly issues rather difficult and costly), it consists almost entirely of trade paperbacks and hardback omnibuses (omnibi?). Or, in common terms, ‘graphic novels.’

I’m not a huge fan of that term. To me, it just seems like a way to make your collection seem more highbrow, as if it’s somehow shameful or embarrassing to admit that you have a bookcase full of them. On this site, I’ll be using the term ‘comic’ to refer to anything I cover, since that’s all a ‘graphic novel’ is: a series of comics bound together.

I love collecting and reading them, and I'm proud of it.
