<image:title>Reviews - Transformers: Combiner Wars - Plot Summary and Credits</image:title>
<image:caption>With the war between the Autobots and Decepticons at an end, the planet Cybertron begins to reach out to its lost colonies, starting with the religious inhabitants of Caminus. Starscream, now the ruler of Cybertron, hires former Decepticon Swindle to lead a group of associates to Caminus, where they use an artefact called the Enigma of Combination to form the combiner Menasor. As Swindle and Menasor leave a trail of destruction across Caminus, Optimus Prime and Windblade unleash the Autobot combiner Superion and saves the people of the planet, who hail Optimus as a demigod due to his status as a Prime. This threatens Starscream’s hold on the colony, which the former Autobot strategist Prowl believes will lead to another war. Prowl returns from Earth with the Decepticon combiner Devastator under his command and attacks Starscream, who uses the Enigma to turn five more Autobots into the combiner Defensor, who defeats Devastator with the help of Superion. With two combiners now under his control, Starscream’s influence over the alliance between Cybertron and Caminus threatens the fragile peace between the old factions, and his new power is put to the test when Menasor escapes from prison and joins forces with Devastator in an attempt to destroy the space bridge linking Cybertron to the colonies. As the four combiners battle over the space bridge, Optimus and Prowl obtain the Enigma of Combination and join with fellow Autobots Mirage, Ironhide and Sunstreaker to form the combiner Optimus Maximus. With their minds connected in this new form, Prowl sees how Optimus looks beyond strategy and probability to envision a more hopeful future, agreeing to help undo the damage he has caused. Back on Cybertron, Starscream kills Swindle in a riot at the space bridge to cover up his crimes. A council of worlds is established to govern the colonies, with Windblade representing Caminus. <image:caption>While investigating a mysterious black site off the coast of Gotham City known as Ark M, Bruce Wayne learns about a scientist named Victor Fries from a childhood friend, who is killed before he can share any more information. At Fries’ lab, Batman is captured and placed into a cryogenic tank alongside dozens of other unfortunate individuals. After narrowly escaping, Batman is forced to fight against Fries’ frozen victims, allowing the mad scientist to get away. Meanwhile, Bruce’s friend Waylon Jones is kidnapped and taken to Ark M, where Batman faces the genetically enhanced mercenary Bane. Batman remains a prisoner in Ark M for weeks, experimented in by scientists, hunted by Bane, and eventually injected with the same venom that gave Bane his strength. Waylon, now the mutant Killer Croc, helps Batman escape before vanishing into the sewers. When Batman wakes up after recovering from his injuries, he learns that Bane has hunted and mutilated his closest friends. When Bruce’s old flame Selina; now the criminal Catwoman; returns to Gotham, she helps him to enlist the vigilante organisation known as the Red Hood Gang for a final battle with Bane. With the help of Alfred, Catwoman, Killer Croc and the Red Hood, Batman used the venom that he was injected with to overload Bane’s strength and seemingly destroy him. His still-living remains are kept by his employer, a mysterious billionaire known as the Joker, who forced him to watch his home and family burn as punishment for his failure. One day, an American soldier named Steve Trevor appears on the island and makes friends with Diana, who sends him back to the world of the living by sacrificing her right arm. With her arm replaced by a magical substitute, Diana ventures out into the world with the resurrected Pegasus as well as an arsenal of magical weapons created by her mother, reuniting with Steve and clashing with his superiors in the military. Her first major battle is against a monster called the Tetracide, which she eventually defeats by using her lasso to transform herself into Medusa. They find themselves in Gotham City, where Shredder begins to take over the local crime syndicates, drawing the attention of Batman. They learn that the mutagen I their blood is becoming inert after leaving its home dimension, which will soon reduce them to their pre-mutant state if they stay in Gotham for too long. Seeing that they share a common enemy, the Turtles find their way into the Batcave and convince Batman to help them stop the Foot and get home. Shredder also finds a like-minded ally in the immortal warlord Ra’s Al Ghul, who intercept the Turtle’s ally Casey Jones as he tries to deliver them a fresh supply of mutagen. <image:title>Reviews - Secret Wars - Plot Summary and Credits</image:title>
<image:caption>[Deep breath] Every universe has been destroyed by a series of incursions, leaving only the main Marvel Universe and the Ultimate Universe still standing, and only one of them can survive. As heroes from both universes fight each other for their survival, two other groups prepare for the worst; a team of scientists led by Reed Richards and the Cabal, a team of villains led by Thanos and the Maker, Reed’s counterpart from the Ultimate Universe. As these two teams escape on inter-dimensional life rafts, Doctor Doom, Doctor Strange and the Molecule Man steal the power of the Beyonders, ancient gods responsible for the incursions. Doom pieces together a new world, known as Battleworld, from the fragments of the lost realities, with Strange as his sheriff, Sue Storm as his queen and everyone else under his command, making himself the god of this new world and ruling from his castle in the World Tree. An army of Thors serves as his elite enforcers, the Thing is made into a wall to keep out hordes of the undead, Johnny Storm is imprisoned above as the sun and numerous former heroes and villains rule vast kingdoms in Doom’s name. The survivors of the two life rafts are the only ones other than Doom and Strange who remember the world before, consisting of Richards, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Namor, Star-Lord, Jane Foster, Cyclops (now with the power of the Phoenix), Peter Parker, Miles Morales and the villains of the Cabal. Strange helps them escape from Doom, who kills him and the Phoenix-powered Cyclops before dispatching his forces across Battleworld. Weeks later, the heroes have gathered enough allies and weapons to face Doom in battle. Star-Lord places a splinter of the fallen Groot into the roots of the World Tree, allowing his friend to take to the battlefield in a colossal new form, while the two Reeds locate the Molecule Man to try and convince him to help them. Black Panther, now armed with an Infinity Gauntlet courtesy of the late Sheriff Strange, leads the army of the dead against Doom, and the two now-godlike kings duel in the heavens. When Doom finally faces Reed in the Molecule Man’s prison, all of his new power is released, destroying Battleworld and allowing the old world to return. Back in the Prime Universe, Reed and his family get to work restoring the multiverse. If I forgot anything, I apologise. With the help of a group of fellow captured gladiators and the Emperor’s bodyguard Caiera, Hulk breaks free and smashes anyone standing in his way, including his old friend the Silver Surfer, who was captured as well. After uniting the tribes of Sakaar and defeating the King, Hulk becomes ruler of the planet with Caiera as his queen. One day, the ship that carried the Hulk to Sakaar explodes, killing most of the inhabitants of the planet, including Caiera. Swearing revenge against the heroes who exiled him and killed his people, the Hulk gathers his remaining warriors and leaves for his home planet. <image:caption>Gigantic kaiju emerge from an interdimensional portal beneath the Pacific Ocean, destroying cities and poisoning the environment. Humanity’s weapons are all but useless against them, so they must create a new method of fighting them without having to level a city in the process. A fleet of enormous mechs, called jaegers, are constructed to face the kaiju threat, but the neural link used to operate them requires two pilots with similar experiences and personalities. At the height of the war with the kaiju, reporter Naomi Sokolov holds a series of interviews with key members of the jaeger program, revealing how mankind’s greatest weapons were created and the cost they had on their pilots. <image:caption>After a previous storyline where Scarlet Witch caused the deaths of several heroes, the Avengers and X-Men reluctantly agree that her power makes her too dangerous to remain alive, so she alters reality before they try to kill her. Her father Magneto rules the world with mutants as the dominant species; Luke Cage runs an underground human resistance movement; Spider-Man has a wife and child; and both teams are scattered in their new lives. Only Wolverine remembers the world as it was, so with the help of a young mutant named Layla, he tracks down his fellow heroes and restores their memories, leading them in an assault on Magneto’s castle. <image:caption>Plot Summary and Credits Fifty years ago, the supervillains of the Marvel Universe took over the world. The Red Skull is in the White House, an insane Bruce Banner and his sadistic grandchildren rule California, and the country between them is a lawless wasteland. A retired Wolverine is called to take on a dangerous mission to provide for his family, despite his vow to never again unsheathe his claws after being tricked into killing his closest friends. His journey across a ravaged America brings him into contact with old friends, even more old enemies, and plenty of opportunities for tragic flashbacks. When he finally makes it home with the money, he [SPOILER ALERT!] finds his family murdered by the Hulk gang. Showing his claws for the first time in fifty years, he cuts through the Hulk gang, leaving only the baby alive. With a little Hulk now in his care, he rides off into the sunset, ready to take on what’s left of the world. <image:title>Reviews - Windblade: Distant Stars - Plot Summary and Credits</image:title>
<image:caption>After the events of Combiner Wars (which I’ll review in the future), the finally unified Cybertron has started to reach out to its lost colonies to form a Council of Worlds led by Starscream, with Windblade serving as a representative for her home planet Caminus. Their mission brings them into contact with the speed freaks of Velocitron, the beast-formers of Eukaris, the diminutive inhabitants of Divisun and the fierce soldiers of Carcer, as well as their respective Titans. Each planet that they visit brings a new challenge, and Windblade utilises all of her wit and wisdom to gain the support of the colonists and to keep Starscream from achieving absolute control over the Council. The one-shot Combiner Hunters sees Arcee attempt to steal an artefact called the Enigma of Combination and accidentally cause a group of religious warriors known as the Torchbearers to form the combiner Victorion. Windblade talks them out of attacking Arcee and has the Enigma returned to the vault, hoping to keep Starscream from using it to create an army of the gigantic warriors.
